Story

A beautifully sculptural amber crystal decanter with six matching cordials, each cut in a strong geometric form with substantial faceted bases.

The color is what gives the set its presence. Depending on the light, the crystal shifts from pale honey to a deeper golden amber, while the heavy bases and sharply cut sides give the pieces an architectural quality that feels particularly at home on a bar.

The set has the restrained glamour of mid-century European crystal — substantial, polished and highly decorative without being ornate. The decanter is especially striking, with its tall rectangular body, rounded interior well and faceted stopper.

Together, the seven pieces make a complete and unusually cohesive bar set.

Origin

Mid-twentieth century. Amber cut crystal.

Unmarked. While the form and coloration recall the modernist crystal associated with makers such as Moser, no maker’s mark has been found and the set is offered without attribution.

Condition

Very good vintage condition overall. The decanter, stopper and cordials present beautifully, with light surface wear consistent with age and use.

One cordial has a small nick to the lower edge corner of the base, shown in the photographs. The nick is localized and does not detract significantly from the overall appearance of the set. When aligned, unnoticeable.

Decanter: 10.5 in. H with stopper; 8.75 in. H without stopper.
Stopper: 3 in. H.
Cordials: approximately 2.5 in. H × just under 2 in. W.

The color spoke to me immediately. I have always loved amber glass and crystal, especially when it is paired with a strong, almost architectural form like this.

My husband and I collect Moser vases, so I am particularly drawn to that world of heavy, beautifully colored crystal — objects that feel just as sculptural as they are functional. This set immediately reminded me of that sensibility, even though it is unmarked and I would not presume to attribute it to Moser.

What I loved most was how complete it felt. The tall decanter, the six matching cordials, the substantial bases and that warm honey color all work together beautifully.

It feels made for a proper bar: useful, glamorous and just restrained enough to let the material do the work.
