Story

Marbled butterscotch Bakelite body and handle paired with a carved frosted Lucite starburst lid in pearlized cream. Brass hardware, original clasp, rigid arched handle. Mid-century American, circa 1950s.

The marbling is what stops you — deep amber swirled with darker veins, almost like burled wood rendered in resin. The lid is carved in a radial sunburst that catches light differently from every angle. A piece made to be noticed without trying too hard.

Origin

Found at a New York flea market, sitting on a table between a 1940s mink stole and a pair of kid leather gloves that fit like they belonged to someone who never carried her own luggage.

Condition

Structurally sound. Clasp locks cleanly. No cracks, no chips. Minor interior surface wear consistent with age, minor blemish on bottom.
