Marbled butterscotch Bakelite body and handle paired with a carved frosted Lucite starburst lid in pearlized cream. Brass hardware, original clasp, rigid arched handle. Mid-century American, circa 1950s.
The marbling is what stops you — deep amber swirled with darker veins, almost like burled wood rendered in resin. The lid is carved in a radial sunburst that catches light differently from every angle. A piece made to be noticed without trying too hard.
Origin: Found at a New York flea market, sitting on a table between a 1940s mink stole and a pair of kid leather gloves that fit like they belonged to someone who never carried her own luggage.
Condition: Structurally sound. Clasp locks cleanly. No cracks, no chips. Minor interior surface wear consistent with age, minor blemish on bottom.
Dimensions:
4" × 8.25" × 9.5", including handle
